In Finland, we continue to see favourable developments in the biogas market. Domestic production is growing but is currently insufficient to meet demand, which is why imports of certified biogas have grown by 86% in 2024, and the trend is set to continue in 2025 with further increases in volume. Currently, around 50 new plants are in the planning or construction phase, which could more than double domestic production from just under 1 TWh to just over 2 TWh. By 2030, there is potential to further increase domestic production to 4-7 TWh.
The areas experiencing the strongest growth in Finland are production from farm and co-digestion plants, which is favourable for Biofrigas as this is our primary target group. As in Sweden, production capacity for liquid biogas is being built up, and the first plant was commissioned in Turku in 2022. Several plants are under construction that would multiply capacity from current levels for the main supply to the vehicle segment, where Gasum, as the dominant player, currently has more than 20 filling stations for liquid gas.
