The market for liquid biogas is growing in Norway – and fast!

Below you can read a report from our CEO, Erik Fromell, who attended Energigass Norge's annual gas conference.

Yesterday, I attended Energigass Norge's annual gas conference in Oslo. It is clear that Norway is investing in liquid biogas (LBG) as a fuel for heavy transport – and the development is impressive:

There are already 17 LBG stations, 10 of which also offer CBG. And also:

  • 30 CBG stations are in operation, and more are on the way.
  • In 2025, 2 LBG, 1 LBG/CBG and 2 CBG stations will be added.
  • In 2026, 2 LBG, 15 LBG/CBG and 3 CBG stations are planned.

By the end of 2026, the installed capacity for LBG for the transport sector is expected to exceed 1 TWh per year. And demand is not only growing in road transport – shipping and industry are also demanding LBG.

Today, approximately 0.8 TWh of biogas is produced in Norway, of which just under 0.3 TWh is liquefied into LBG. This means there is a great need for increased liquefaction capacity, both in large and small production facilities.
Biofrigas offers effective solutions for upgrading and liquefying biogas with an annual production of up to 30GWh.
